supernatural turtle brownies.
Posted in baking, candy, favorites, recipes, squares | 4 commentsBrownies are fabulous. Turtle candies are divine. And anything that melds these two all-time favorite treats can only be described as supernatural. So in this recipe, the dense, rich, chocolaty goodness of your classic brownie collides in a beautiful union with the sweet, chewy caramel, milk chocolate chunks, and famous pecan crunch that we all love about turtle candies.
Supernatural Turtle Brownies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Brownie Ingredients
½ cup butter, melted
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
½ cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
¼ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
Caramel Filling Ingredients
36 caramel candies, unwrapped
3 tbsp whipping cream
Candy Layers Ingredients
2/3 cup dark chocolate chunks
2/3 cup milk chocolate chunks
2/3 cup pecans, lightly toasted and smashed (maintain large pieces; do not pulverize)
Tips
These turtle brownies are ultra easy to make, but it is a several-step recipe which takes roughly 3 hours to execute (from mixing bowl to serving plate) thanks to two trips to the oven, an hour cooling, and another hour in the fridge, so it’s probably not a dessert to choose whip up at the last minute for unexpected visitors or to satisfy a sudden urge for sweetness. They can, however, be made a day ahead and stored tightly covered at room temperature.
Brownie Base Directions
- Grease bottom and sides of 10×8-inch or 9-inch square pan with butter, canola or coconut oil.
- Stir together butter, sugar and vanilla in large bowl.
- Add eggs; beat well with spoon.
- In separate bowl, stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to egg mixture, beating well until smooth.
- Spread half of batter in prepared pan.
- Bake in preheated (350 degree F) oven for 18 minutes.
Caramel Filling Directions
- Meanwhile, in small saucepan over low heat, melt and combine caramels and whipping cream, stirring occasionally, until smooth.
Caramel, Candy & Brownie Assembly
- Pour caramel over partially baked brownies.
- Sprinkle with 1/3 cup of each dark and milk chocolate chunks and 1/3 cup of the pecans.
- Dollop remaining brownie batter by small spoonfuls all over caramel, chocolate and pecan layer.
- Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chunks (1/3 cup dark chocolate + 1/3 cup milk chocolate) and pecans (1/3 cup).
- Bake for 34 to 37 minutes longer or until center is almost set (brownie is no longer gooey).
- Cool 1 hour on rack.
- Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
- Cut and indulge!
I mean, seriously???
This looks completely off the hook! Only a tall glass of cold milk could tame this…
